BaseballerZ Card Game

BaseballerZ is a card game concept inspired from popular sports games such as FIFA, Madden, MLB The Show and NHL. Players collect cards that each have their own stats, special abilities, rarities and more.

Tech Stack

I utilized ChatGPT to come up with gameplay loops, content for the cards such as names, special ability names and effects, team names and more. The art style was created by a series of trial-and-error prompting with Midjourney. The card art was entirely created in Photoshop, from the layout, to art positioning, backgrounds, custom signatures, etc.

Card Making Process

Using Photoshop, creating the card art was a matter of setting up an editable template in which I can simply edit the styles and content for each new card.

1. Card Shape & Color — The shape will remain a fixed size and style for each card, while the color changes based on rarity.
2. Background Texture — A background texture or color is added for the card's content. This is unique to each card but could also simply be a color overlay change.
3. Content Assembly — The art generated by Midjourney is added with a golden border to put it in focus. The card name, position, and rating are added in the top bar above the image.
4. Final Details — The special ability name and effect, player stats, team name, and personalized signature on the image for added polish.

Personal Note

This was a very fun personal project, as it combined card games, baseball and video games — all huge parts of my life growing up. This project required heavy use of AI tools such as ChatGPT and Midjourney to create a fun, approachable card game design that takes inspiration from already-established hit game modes from current sports games.
